the Greater North American Fantasy Football League
LEAGUE RULES
Introduction:
The GNAFFL is an email fantasy football league just for fun, there
is no reward except for the thrill of victory; however, there is a
team fee of $5.00. From this fee we will pay for the software
program and use the rest as cash prizes with the Superbowl winner
getting 50%, runner up gets 25%, and scoring champ gets the other
25%. The league will consist of 15 teams in 3 divisions and end
every year with 3 weeks of playoffs involving the top 7 teams in
the league.
Rosters:
Each team will consist of up to 15 players or positions. There is no
minimum or maximum requirements other than you can not have more than
15 slots and you must be able to pay all their salaries (see section
on salaries) You must; however, have at least one player for each
position. And you may not have more than 2 defenses.
Each week you will start:
1 QB, 1 RB, 1 RB/WR, 1 WR, 2 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DST
DST stands for DEFENSE and SPECIAL TEAMS. If you have one team's
defense, you automatically have its special team unit.
Rosters must be mailed to the commissioner and assistant commissioner
by 4:00 pm eastern the last day before the first game of the week
(that means usually Saturday at 4:00 unless thursday games)
2 weeks prior to the draft teams will be required to pare down their
rosters to 8 players.
Draft:
The draft will be via email and will be conducted between the end of
preseason and the start of the regular season each year. We will
conduct one or two rounds per day.
The team with the worst record will have the first pick in the draft,
the team with the second worst recort second, etc until we get to the
Super Bowl champ who has the last pick in the draft. We will repeat
this order for each round. Draft order for non-playoff teams is
determined at the end of GNAFFL's regular season. In determining
"worst record" the following criteria will be used in this order:
overall record, div record (if in same div), total points.
There will be 7 rounds in the draft every year.
Trades:
No limit on trades other than your roster may not have more than 15
players. Trades may involve players, draft choices, money, or a
combination of these. When you trade a player away, he can't be
back on your team via a trade before 4 weeks have passed.
No trade will be allowed after week 12.
Waivers:
Teams may drop players from their rosters at any time and without
limit.
Once a week their will be a "free agent signing day". This day will
be Wed, except on weeks with Thur games when pickup day will be
on Tue. On pickup day each team can sign up to 2 free agents providing
their is room on their roster for them. Each team that wants to pickup
players must submit a list to the commissioner by 4:00 pm PST of
who they want. Then in order from "worst" team to "best" each team
will get a pick, we will then repeat this order for the second round.
The commissioner will send out results once both rounds are completed.
When a player is cut from a team, he retains his salary for 2 weeks.
Two weeks after a player is cut his salary drops to one half of what
it was until the next draft when he starts over. An undrafted player
may be acquired by signing him to a salary of $1.
You may carry one person on IR in excess of the 15 player roster. To
be placed on IR, you must pay his salary and he must be on
the IR list of the NFL franchise he plays for. You may activate a
player off the IR list anytime, although you may have to cut someone
in order to stay under 15 men.
Scoring:
All scores will be calculated using the FFLM software program and
will be posted the day after the last game of the week (tue). I will
also post the current standings at that time.

Ties:
Tied games will be decided by the following tie breakers in
the given order: kickers, def, st, qb. If the game is still
tied at this point it remains a tie.
Salaries:
Upon being drafted each player/position will recieve a
salary based on their draft position. This salary will
increase every year depending on current salary and the
team's winning percentage. The salary is paid immediately
after the draft, so if a player is traded in midseason or
dropped from the team, his salary is lost. At the beginning
of the year each team is "given" $250, this money is used
for salaries, paying the salaries of players picked up off
waivers, and trading. Every team is required to set aside
enough money to pay its draft picks and at least $5 for free
agent signings.
Initial salaries based on draft order:
Round Salary
1 $20
2 15
3 10
4 8
5 6
6 4
7 2
Yearly salary increase:
Each player's salary will increase according to the
following formula:
current salary + raise due to salary + raise due to win = new salary
Current Salary Winning percentage Increase
.000 - .459 $0
0 - 10 .460 - .689 1
11 - 20 .690 - 1.000 2
21 - 30 3
31 - 40 4
41 + 5
Schedule:
The GNAFFL will have a 14 week regular season, and
each team will play their div. opp. 2 times, plus 6 games
against nondivision opp.
Since there are 15 teams I will designate a fictitious team
called "average" whose score will be the average score of all
the other teams in our league. One team will play this
"average" team each week- there will be no byes. I will make
the schedule up by hand each year before the start of the
season and will try to weight it so the winning teams play
each other and the losing teams play each other, sort of like
the NFL does.
Playoff:
The last 3 weeks of the season will be playoffs matching the
division winners and 4 wildcard (best overall records
ties broken by head to head record, divisional record, then
by total number of points, then coin toss.) The Div winner
with the best record will get a first round bye, the other
2 div winners will play against wildcard teams with the best
div winner playing the worst wildcard, etc. Finally, the last
2 wild card teams will play each other. For the second round,
the best div winner will play the winner of the wildcard-wild
card game, the the other 2 remaining teams playing each other.
Home field will be given to the team with the best record,
although the Super Bowl will be at a neutral site (no points
for home team).
Best Div Win - -2nd best div win
--- ---
Bye - | | -worst wild card
| |
|--Super Bowl--|
| |
Wild Card - | | -3rd best div win
--- ---
Wild Card - -2nd worst wild card
The 8 non-playoff teams will compete for the Consolation Bowl.
The teams will be seeded according to their records and the
brackets will be as follows:
#1 seed- - #2 seed
-- --
#8 seed - | | - #7 seed
|Consolation Bowl |
#4 seed - | | - #3 seed
-- --
#5 seed - - #6 seed
There will also be a scoring champ awarded at the end of the
season, scoring for overall points continues until the end of
the season, so even nonplayoff teams submit rosters.
Rule Changes:
Any new changes to the rules need to be introduced by an owner
and then seconded by another owner. Once seconded, the
commisioner will set a period of time apart for debates and
the matter will be settled by a vote of the current owners.
Rule changes must be introduced in the off season- we will
not make modifications in midseason.
Owners leaving:
Since this will be a keeper league we will not start over. If an
owner quits we will "sell" his team to another owner by advertising
for another player. They will then take over that team and run it as
before.
